Basic Medical Sciences Faculty Research

The research programs of the BMS faculty are varied but overlap in many experimental technologies and methods, with clinically-relevant strengths in behavioral disorders, bioinformatics, bone diseases, cancer pathobiology, cardiovascular physiology, health psychology, comparative anatomy and evolution, cellular and developmental biology, DNA metabolism, endocrinology, gene expression regulation, human and molecular genetics, immunology, medical ethics, and pharmaco-neuroscience. The strength of the research programs is recognized by the support of the National Institutes of Health, and other extramural funding agencies. Medical students will be introduced to the research enterprise via mentoring in the laboratory or field by the faculty preceptor for each of their longitudinal scholarly projects. Undergraduates from the ASU Tempe, Downtown Phoenix, and West Campuses will also be integrated into the research laboratories, and a Graduate Program in Basic Medical Sciences leading to the Ph.D. is being planned for the UA/ASU Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
