On February 22, 2007, the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix in partnership with ASU, received approval from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the development of our four-year educational program track in Phoenix. The next full-year accreditation survey is scheduled for academic year 2013-2014.
The BMS Department Faculty are looking forward to welcoming the inaugural class of medical students to the Phoenix downtown campus. The 24 new students will begin orientation on August 2, 2007, and the first formal class will be on Monday, August 6th. There will be a White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, August 11th during which the matriculating students will be "coated." The keynote speakers will be Arnold P. Gold, MD, and Sandra O. Gold, EdD, founders of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, advancing humanism in medicine and perpetuating the tradition of the caring doctor.
BMS Professor and Phoenix Dean, Ted Shortliffe, MD, PhD, received the 2006 Morris F. Collen Award recognizing lifelong exceptional achievement in medical informatics. Dr. Shortliffe recently became the founding dean of the University's College of Medicine's Phoenix campus, in partnership with Arizona State University.
